To Students and Parents:
In order to better meet student learning needs, the 6th and 7th grade Math teachers at Waller Junior High are transitioning to a different instructional design in 6th and 7th grade Math in order to maximize the amount of classroom time for students to work on and practice with concepts with the support of the classroom teacher. In turn, this will also minimize the amount of time at home where students are doing work without the support of a math teacher. This will allow parents to see what their students are learning and how they are learning the new content rather than having to help them complete math problems for homework.
In order to flip the way instructional time is spent at home and school, we are requiring students to watch the initial “I Do” part of the math instruction outside of class in the format of a video that can be accessed through the internet. We have included examples below for accessing the videos to complete the I Do Notes:
· at home on a computer, tablet, phone, etc.,
· after school in tutoring or ACE,
· before school in tutoring or ACE, This means that your student should not go to the gym, but should report to the math teacher that has tutoring that morning, computer lab 102, or the library if they are in ACE.
· on the bus on the way home if students have internet service on a device.
· We will provide your students with more options as those come available at our school.
Because we are no longer assigning traditional problems to complete for homework, we are taking the completion of their I Do Notes for a grade. If the student completes the notes, he/she will earn a 100 for his/her homework grade. If the Notes are not complete at the start of class, he/she will have a zero for the homework grade.
Feel free to contact your student’s math teacher or the math interventionist if you have any questions or concerns that we can help you with regarding ways for your student to complete the I Do videos prior to the start of class.
Sincerely,
The WJH 6th and 7th grade Math Teachers and Math Interventionist
